]]> Having recently been taken over by Theme Resorts, the Kithala Resort in Tissamaharama includes a modern hotel which was formerly known as Hotel Priyankara and now offers a very good standard of accommodation at reasonable rates. All the rooms are very spacious, beautifully decorated and have balconies that have amazing views over the vast paddyfields directly behind the hotel.

All the chalets are made from local materials and are basic – it is very much for those that want to get back to nature.  The pool is unusual as it is set on top of a rock which has views over the resort and the sea beyond. ]]> This stylish eco-friendly hotel, spread over 38 acres of jungle, opened in 2013 and is situated just outside of Yala National Park but fronting the sea at Kirinda. The rooms of the main hotel do have great views of the sea. The exclusive Tented Villas are away from the main hotel and are for those who like their creature comforts but want to be surrounded by nature. Do note that the sea here is not safe for swimming due to strong currents.

]]> Flower Garden Lake Resort near to Yala National Park is a small boutique style hotel that offers great accommodation for those on a budget.
The hotel is a fantastic place to stay in Sri Lanka if you’re looking to spot stunning wildlife. The lake resort itself overlooks the beautiful Weerawila Lake, where there is abundant birdlife and you can often see water buffaloes bathing!
Having only 10 rooms, the resort does feel very personal and tranquil being well away from the busy town centre.

It does have a feel of being right in the Park, to the extent that animals do wander through the grounds- boar, monkeys and even the odd elephant. Having been totally refurbished recently, it does now have the feel of a world class game lodge. The main restaurant is located above reception and has the most fantastic 360° views over the nearby jungle.

It still retains that colonial British charm with highly polished wooden floors, high ceilings but with modern amenities such as updated bathrooms, TVs and AC. The rooms on the first floor are more private with a beautiful verandah overlooking the fabulous gardens which extend to 14 acres. Please note the hotel does not have a liquor license as it is within the bounds of the ancient city of Anuradhapura.

The hotel is relatively new having only opened in 2009. It is actually located within the heart of Anuradhapura. All the hotel rooms (of which there are fifty) are comfortably furnished and there is a very nice pool to relax by.
